Medfoto. International Photography Contest of the Mediterranean.
Club Nàutic l’Escala and the Alive Foundation present MedFoto , the first International Photography Competition of the Mediterranean
MedFoto is the only competition in the world that deals exclusively with the Mediterranean Sea and its relationship with people
MedFoto is born from the commitment between the two entities to work together to create a photographic contest with the aim of spreading the environmental and human values of the Mediterranean Sea.
A competition open to different categories with cash prizes
Club Nàutic l’Escala and the Alive Foundation dedicate a photography contest to all sides of the Mediterranean Sea under the theme of the sea and people . From landscape to marine life; from what happens on its surface to what happens under its waters; from sports and professional nautical activities.
To give access to everyone, MedFoto offers up to seven contest categories, including an exclusive one for images taken with mobile devices. A popular vote prize is also awarded to the finalist photo that gets the most “Likes” on the competition’s Instagram account . In total, MedFoto distributes nearly 4,000 euros in cash among the winners.
On the other hand, MedFoto is also a competition open to everyone who wants to participate: photography enthusiasts and professionals. All of them can present up to 15 photographs in any of the categories of the contest.
A sea of values
The sea and the Mediterranean Sea have been closely linked to the fishing town of l’Escala since its origins. In fact, the Greeks disembarked in the Iberian Peninsula from Empúries, where their vestiges remind us every day of the importance of preserving their historical and cultural legacy of which the sea is one of its main backbones.
This sea that washes our coasts is therefore very rich in values. It is culture and history; a work and recreation environment for man and the habitat of thousands of animal and plant species that make up its very special landscape. Values that must coexist for the present and for future generations and that we can only preserve by enjoying and working at sea in a sustainable way
A collaborative project
The MedFoto contest is a joint initiative of Club Nàutic l’Escala and the Alive Foundation. Club Nàutic l’Escala is a non-profit sports association whose aim is to promote sports and recreational boating by giving everyone access to the sea. The Alive Foundation is a private foundation that works to improve knowledge of biodiversity through the collection, cataloging and dissemination of biological information.
The City Council of l’Escala gives its support to the project as part of its constant effort to spread local values and environments, as a tool to improve the quality of life of citizens.
