A Gram Octopus
In the meadows of Gram ( Cymodocea nodosa ) in the Gulf of Roses and the Gulf of Pals, an abundant presence of octopuses had been observed. However, a few years ago, this wealth has decreased drastically according to many fishermen in the area.
The project “Un pop de Gram” proposes to start the study of octopus in the meadows of Cymodocea nodosa from the Gulf of Roses and that of Pals in order to find out what is the population situation of this cephalopod, what is its diet, its breeding habits and what food availability it finds in these grasslands.
Through the Pop de Gram, the aim is to offer shelter to octopuses, through cadups (catúfols), and to study their food remains and the average occupation of these protection spaces during the months of May to September in the Gulf of Roses and that of Pals.
Thus, the main objectives of this project are:
- Contribute to the knowledge of the trophic resource available in the Gulf of Roses and the Gulf of Pals.
- Contribute to the knowledge of the diet of the octopus and its reproduction habits.
- Analyze the state of the octopus population in the Gulf of Roses and the Gulf of Pals.
- Study the feasibility of this system for future applications.
