The main educational objective of the foundation in the training activities is to bring about a transformation of the participant towards attitudes and values ​​that respect the sea. Specifically, the goals of the foundation’s educational activities are primarily based on Sustainable Development Goal 14 on life under water : Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Talk about the ecology of the common octopus on the Empordà coast and viewing of the video about the project to study the species in the bay of Roses and Pals.

The unknown sea meadow of the Bay of Roses

The bay of Roses contains an underwater meadow of 800 ha of the Cymodocea nodosa phanerógama, or popularly called Gram.. An area of ​​high richness where species such as squid or cuttlefish take the opportunity to lay their eggs. But, at the same time, a very unknown space! Do you want to meet him?

Marine reserves, a solution?

The marine environment generates many benefits and opportunities for us (food resources, leisure spaces, …) but it is also under pressure from human activities. Instead, the sea is an ally in mitigating climate change. In this activity we will work on the fragile relationship between people and the sea and the need to protect spaces to continue enjoying them and obtaining resources.

Objectives of the session
– Understand basic marine ecology, ecosystems, predator-prey relationships and the connection of many people to the sea and the life it contains, including the sea’s role as a provider of food, work and exciting opportunities.
– Know the function of the oceans in moderating the climate.
– Understand the threats to ocean systems and recognize the relative fragility of many ocean ecosystems.
– Understand restricted areas and marine reserves and the need to protect them with a scientific basis.

Ages and requirements
– Under 12s: Video viewing, accompanied by a previous knowledge activity and a discussion about the effects of human activities at sea to introduce new concepts about marine reserves.
– From 12 years: Role-playing game where, in groups, they will defend their position on declaring a marine reserve or not in a known space.
