Call 2021
Once the BASES 2021 were published, 4 proposals were presented, all with quality to win the competition, but finally the jury had to choose one, and this was the proposal entitled
” Ecological and economic benefits associated with Cymodocea nodosa meadows in the Bay of Roses “
(Ecological and economic benefits associated with Cymodocea nodosa meadows in the Bay of Roses) presented by the Biosphere group, Environmental Education Association .
The project has 4 defined objectives :
- Measuring the CO₂ storage capacity of the C. nodosa meadow.
- Measure the amount of calcareous sand produced by the same meadow of C. nodosa.
- To measure the role of the C. nodosa meadow in stabilizing the substrate by reducing sediment resuspension and promoting sedimentation.
- Establish monitoring stations to estimate sediment surface elevation changes and carbon sequestration along the Bay of Roses.
These measures will make the gram meadow valuable for its impact on the geodynamic processes of sedimentation and sand movements and also for its impact on the flows and storage of CO₂ and therefore to assess its contribution in the fight against climate change .
The project is developed during the second part of 2021 and the first months of 2022.
