The Habitats Association will offer new training in river inspection for all people interested in participating in monitoring the ecological state of a stretch of river, as well as those teachers interested in community service or service-learning, as well as people who are already part of the volunteer community and who want to expand their knowledge or resolve doubts.
Experts from the Rivers Project will explain how to apply scientific methodology. Among other things, they will do practical measurements of flow, temperature, the presence of nitrates, the impacts suffered by the riverside forest or the fauna that lives in the river. The activity, which will take place on Saturday, April 5 in the morning in Sant Privat d’en Bas, is free and for all ages.

Rivers Project
The Rius project , promoted by the Habitats Association, has been running for over twenty-five years, and focuses on the knowledge and monitoring of river ecosystems in Catalonia through environmental volunteering. However, in the rivers of the Alt Empordà there is a lack of consolidation of volunteer groups to monitor them. This is why the Alive Foundation has wanted to promote the project in the Muga and Fluvià basins and promote the creation of volunteering in the area.
All those interested in helping to take measures for the ecological state of the Muga or the Fluvià can sign up for the activity through the website of the Habitats Association or the Alive Foundation.
The Gurn River in the Vall d’en Bas
The Gurn or Gurni is a river in the Vall d’en Bas, in La Garrotxa. It is a tributary of the Fluvià, and is formed by the confluence of the Collfred and Sallent streams. It is listed in the Natura 2000 Network, and represents an area with very rich and at the same time very fragile continental aquatic ecosystems. However, at the same time, this river bathes the well-known area of the Pins of Sant Privat d’en Bas, a bathing area for many visitors and residents of the Vall, and descends to find the Fluvià in the middle of the valley.
